Chuck Norris Contacted Us

Thursday, October 16th, 2008
Well, sorta.

I’ll try to hold off on jokes till the end…

I got this email from Chuck Norris’s legal team. Apparently there was an app on the iTMS that violated his copyright or something. Check it out:
From: “Lodge, Deborah” Subject: Unauthorized Use of “Chuck Norris” Date: Wed, October 15, 2008 6:36 pm To: joe at iphonexe.com Dear Joe: We are lawyers for Carlos Ray Norris, a/k/a Chuck Norris, the famous actor. Please see the annexed letter regarding the unauthorized use of Mr. Norris’s trademark and publicity rights on certain software available through the website iphonexe.com — specifically the software trivia game “Are You Tougher Than Chuck Norris”. I look forward to your prompt response. Sincerely, Deborah Lodge

Anyways, I deleted the app from our listings for her and went on my way. They were nice enough people. I’m only posting this because I figured you guys would get a kick out of it.

A roundhouse kick

Has the Economy Deterred App Devs Yet?

Thursday, October 9th, 2008
Answer: no.

Take a look at the number of apps added to the app store every week. Last week 718 apps were added/updated in the store - which currently has around 4500 apps. Wow.

The people who enjoy and are good at making iPhone apps will continue to do so.

Now if only we could get our hands on some financial data…

InsertTabs: A Tabs in Textarea Bookmarklet

Friday, September 12th, 2008
While building the site, I often made quick changes to the code in NetFTP, which let met edit code through my browser. However, tabs were always a problem - the browser would try to tab to the next text field instead of insert a \t character.
I looked at the solutions available - sure there’s tabinta, a Firefox extension made for doing just this - but I use Safari a lot, and on some pages I’d like to be able to tab through and not get stuck in a textarea - I want control over which pages override the default tab action.

Grab the bookmarklet after the jump.

UpLoc makes it to the app store!

Monday, August 25th, 2008
uplocicon UpLoc, the app I’ve been working on for a month or so, has finally made it into the iTunes app store. It’s a web service that lets you save locations from the web or your iPhone. Your iPhone then syncs with your uploc.com account - there are a billion uses for this: sending a location to your friend, saving a location that you might not remember, saving a location on your phone so a family member can access it on the web site, and so on.

It’s $8.99 for the app, and the web service is free, so get on over there and register! It’s a really nice interface, I promise :).

Site Redesigned

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008
You might have noticed the clean new site design we put up in this past month. It’s got a nice, simple interface, as well as a section for our own apps, all written completely from scratch. We’re also working adding a forums/app commentary system.

We maintain a complete iTunes app store repository, which is a great service - you aren’t tied to iTunes to browse the app store any more! There is a mobile version of the site over at m.iphonexe.com.

Any feedback, comments, complaints on the new system would be great.

BTW we got a few more apps up - whois, PuzzlePics, and WuziChess. Try em out and let us now how it goes.
